Thank you for all your support over the past year! We appreciate all your letters of support, attendance at hearings, participation at meetings, and for spreading the word about ISLA. We are grateful for all you’ve done for ISLA and we remain as committed as ever to getting our school open.

Here is an update of events over the past few months. Our negotiations with the facility we’ve been pursuing have unfortunately fallen through, and our application for a district facility within the Glendale Unified School District (pursuant to Prop. 39), has been denied by the district. These were difficult setbacks to be sure, but we are not giving up. We continue to diligently search for a suitable facility to house our new school. Under our current approved charter, we are mandated to find a location within the boundaries of Glendale Unified School District, which has proven to be a daunting task with the limited inventory of potential sites and restrictive zoning requirements in the city.

While these factors make the possibility of opening this fall very unlikely, our commitment hasn’t wavered.

We are also exploring another option, which is to petition LAUSD. This is promising for many reasons, one of which would be the relative ease in finding a site. We would still seek to locate in the same general geographic area, but Los Angeles has greater inventory, and zoning ordinances which are friendlier for schools. Of course, this option would mean undergoing the petitioning process with LAUSD. But we believe this would be worth pursuing, and hope that we can count on your continued support with this new petition. We remain dedicated to the goal of providing a quality dual immersion education for our community, and we will continue pushing forward!
